+$400k selling NFTs (12-years-old)

In July of this year, a 12-year-old launched his own NFT collection and within nine hours the collection was sold out.

He made over 80 Ethereum (~$310,000) on the sale of the tokens and then a further 30 Ethereum on the resale earnings of his NFT’s — yes, he even earns a royalty on the resale of the NFT’s.

With today’s price of Ethereum, that is well over $400,000 for just 2 month’s worth of work. Impressive!

Who is Benyamin Ahmed?

The protagonist of this story is a young and enterprising kid from London with an interest in technology.

According to an interview he did with CNBC, he only learned about NFT’s recently.

I first learned about NFTs earlier this year…I got fascinated with NFTs because you can easily transfer the ownership of an NFT by the blockchain.

Excited by the potential the technology offered, Benyamin created his own NFT collection.

A little while later he created his first avatar collection which included 40 colorful avatars (specifically for Minecraft). He called this collection Minecraft Yee Haa. This collection sold well but not compared to his next creation.

His second NFT collection, the collection that earned him over $400,000 was called Weird Whales.

This collection includes 3,350 pixelated whales.

According to Benyamin, excluding his own time, the project cost him $300, which mainly consisted of paying gas fees during the creation process. It should be said that Benyamin is self-taught and already had a background in programming (even at such a young age).

The Weird Whales collection was launched in July and within nine hours was sold out with sales totaling more than 80 Ethereum. Outstanding!

What is an NFT?

NFT is an acronym for the term Non-Fungible Token.

Fungible isn’t a commonly used word, so some definitions are required. Fungible is a word often found in finance and refers to the interchangeability of something.

For example, banknotes are an example of something that is fungible. One banknote can be exchanged for different banknotes of the same value. For all practical purposes, there is nothing unique or different between banknotes. They are interchangeable.

However, non-fungible refers to something that is unique and therefore cannot be easily exchanged or interchangeable.

For example, art is non-fungible. Due to its uniqueness, it would need to be valued individually, based on its own unique characteristics and now (in this digital age), this translates into non-fungible tokens for which the market can determine the price.

It’s the non-fungible and unique characteristics of NFT’s that allow individuals to claim both a value and ownership of these virtual assets.

How to Get Started with NFT’s?

Truth is, almost anybody can get started with NFT’s…even a 12-year-old can do it :)

The best place to start is to visit the world's largest digital marketplace for crypto collectible and non-fungible tokens (NFT’s) — OpenSea.io.

From OpenSea, it’s possible to create an account, upload your NFT’s and list them for sale. It’s as easy as that. The website also has helpful information on how to get started.

However, if you are just getting started, its worth checking out the highest ranks NFT’s to see the biggest NFT collections in the world. Here you will find many of the world's most popular collections, including cryptokitties, cryptopunks, and rarible.

What’s Better Than NFT’s?

NFT’s have become one of the hottest trends in cryptocurrency lately. Its an idea and concept that has caught hold in the minds of many around the world and has resulted in the creation of whole new digital ecosystems which never existed before.

While it’s tempting to create my own NFT collection, what I believe is much better than NFT’s is investing in projects that support NFT development.

CoinMarketCap

For example, the token Axie Infinity (allows players to collect, breed, raise, battle and trade token-based creatures known as Axies) with one of the larger NFT collections has increased in price by more than 60,000% in the last 10 months.
